Meet the nominees!

AAF-KC Member of the Year

Sean Bryan

Sean Bryan joined AAF-KC shortly after moving to Kansas City and has been involved with the club since 2015. He was a communications volunteer for the 2015 Central Region Conference and 2016 Gas Can Creative Conference. He joined the AAF Board of Directors in 2016 and served as VP of communications for two years. He is currently serving as website chair.

His accomplishments with AAF-KC have included building a communications team and its processes, implementing a project management system, moving to Eventbrite ticket sales, tracking and improving event feedback, and attracting new attendees to club events. He’s excited about what’s next!

Sean loves marketing strategy, building teams and enhancing skills. He is a relationship marketing manager for Think Realty and is heavily involved in marketing automation, operations and CRM.

Tom Apple

A member of AAF-KC for more than 20 years, Tom joined back when it was the KC AD Club. He was elected to the Board of Directors in July of 2017 and currently serves on the membership committee and the AAA sponsorship committee. Tom’s responsibilities include securing AAF-KC corporate memberships and procuring sponsorships for the 2019 AAA show.

Tom takes great pride in communicating the value of AAF with ad agencies, brands and vendors throughout Kansas City. The organization is committed to keeping its eye on the future of advertising, and Tom helps our membership do the same.

As an ad agency "lifer," Tom has work for many agencies in Kansas City including Stephens & Associates, Geoff Howe (now GHG) and Woodruff. Tom is looking forward to helping AAF-KC in its next evolution of fostering a cohesive creative culture within the Kansas City advertising industry.

Sara Sullivan

Sara Sullivan has been a member of AAF-KC for just under two years and currently serves as the VP of programming for the club. In this role Sara is responsible for coordinating the annual event calendar and supporting each director and committee with their programming efforts. She is currently focused on the AAA show, Wednesday Accelerations and Journey Awards. Her past efforts include Creative Tech, Spark and Match. Prior to this year, Sara was the director of the 2018 Gas Can Creative Conference.

Before joining AAF, Sara’s volunteer efforts were spent with the Young Friends of Art for the Nelson-Atkins Museum, where she was most notably Party Arty co-chair for two years. She is also a Stott-certified pilates instructor, wine enthusiast, and loves helping people find a balance in life.

In the past, Sara has been on the account side for experiential agencies in Chicago and New York. Locally, she has worked with both Bernstein-Rein and VMLY&R, mainly focused on new business and sales efforts. Sara has recently opened her own consulting company, SJ Sullivan LLC, and looks forward to collaborating with other like-minded marketing folks in Kansas City.

Ad 2 KC Member of the Year

Ashley Kieffer

Disc-golf enthusiast, homebrewer, and dog-mom, Ashley works as a designer at Barkley and has been a member of AAF-KC for four years now. She is currently serving as Ad 2 social cirector and is excited to help with the 2019 Ad 2 Kansas City rebrand, spearheading the Ad Hops refresh.

Ashley has been dedicated to the club since moving to Kansas City in 2015: serving as 2015-2016 professional development co-chair, 2017 AAA: Game of Advertising co-chair, and 2017 July Ad Wars: Crossroads of the World co-chair. She officially was voted onto the board to take on 2017 December Ad Wars: Tropical Paradise and 2017-2018 Virtual Agency as creative director for Kanbe’s Markets simultaneously.

She also earned a 2017 Journey Awards Young Advertising Professional of the Year nomination and a 2018 Member of the Year nomination. Ashley is so grateful for the sense of community, inspiration, and opportunity that Ad 2 has provided.

Kirstie Mulligan

Kirstie Mulligan has been an Ad 2 member since 2015, beginning by volunteering on Virtual Agency. After her first year as co-creative director for 2018 Gas Can Creative Conference, Kirstie currently serves as design director for Ad 2 Virtual Agency, helping rebrand the Kansas City Irish Center.

Prior to the council, Kirstie has been 2016 Spark KC and 2017 Match KC director, assisted with 2017 Art of the Deal, volunteered for several Virtual Agencies — for clients Happy Birthday Inc, KC Passages, and Kanbe’s Markets — and contributed as a day-of volunteer for numerous AAF events. In 2017, her volunteering led to becoming the Ad 2 nominee for Volunteer of the Year.

By day, Kirstie is a web designer at A.D. Banker & Company, and by night, aside from Ad 2, Kirstie is trying to find new challenging creative outlets, including dance, kayaking, trivia, and even an axe-throwing league. She looks to continue volunteering, designing and attending events.

Taylor Lay

Taylor Lay has been a member of Ad 2 Kansas City for three years. She is currently serving as Ad 2 communications & creative director, occupying this role for the past two years.

This year, Taylor has assisted every committee with their event promotion — from strategy and creation to publishing on various channels and measuring success. Her biggest achievement was implementing project management processes to keep communications running smoothly — which is harder than you think for a volunteer-based organization.

In the past, Taylor has served on the Virtual Agency committee and volunteered for many AAF and Ad 2 events. She is currently an SEO specialist at Go Local Interactive and loves building brands online through organic channels.

Art + Copy Member of the Year

Jonah Grotz

Jonah Grotz recently became a member of Art+Copy Club. Jonah currently serves as a copywriter in support of multiple events, including the Side Show, Creative Tech, and the Journey Awards. In his first year, Jonah has been a go-getter volunteer and is excited to help make each event a well-attended success using engaging copy.

In the past, Jonah has served as a creative co-chair on the 2018 American Advertising Awards committee and as a general volunteer for any available event. Jonah’s currently a senior project manager at Sullivan Higdon & Sink.

Amy Norris

Amy Norris has been a member of Art+Copy Club for 10 years, serving on the council for two. She is currently serving as the 2019 American Advertising Awards (ADDYs) judging director. This year, Amy took on the entry intake process in addition to judging, allowing us to finish judging smoothly and in record time. So if you’ve won an ADDY in the last 3 years, you have her to thank (if you lost, she had nothing to do with it).

Amy has served as judging director for the Kansas City club since 2017, and as co-chair for the 2018 AAF District 9 AAA competition. She also volunteers at as many AAF events as she can manage. Outside of AAF-KC, she lends her time to Kansas City Women in Tech, heading up marketing for their Django Girls bootcamp and mentoring for various events. Amy is currently a software developer at National Land Realty. But honestly, she thinks you should vote for David.

David Sullivan

David Sullivan has been a member of Art+Copy Club for six years. He is currently serving as the special event coordinator. This year, David has assisted in several design projects for the club, coordinating the amazing Side Show event in September and co-chairing AAA judging weekend the last four years.

In the past, David has served as a volunteer for many AAF events, including as a designer for the 2015 Ad 2 Virtual Agency committee. David is currently a graphic designer/production artist at Churchill Container where he creates and preps designs for cups and buckets to major sports and restaurant brands. Also, Amy is being nice :)

Volunteer of the Year

Rebecca Armstrong (AAF-KC Nominee)

Rebecca Armstrong has been a member and volunteer with AAF-KC for 10 years, starting with 2009 Career Day in college. She helped with 2010 Ad Wars, 2011 Virtual Agency, 2012 Ad Wars and Virtual Agency, 2013 Ad Wars, 2014 Ad Wars — to list a few.

From 2013-2017, she served as a director for the Ad 2 Kansas City council: 2011 Virtual Agency director for Midwest Music Foundation (winning 2nd place at the Ad 2 National Public Service Competition), 2013 Art of the Call director, 2013 Ad Wars director, and 2016 and 2017 creative director. Currently, she serves as co-creative director for the 2019 American Advertising Awards.

Rebecca spends her days as a senior designer at Barkley and as Vice President for the Quixotic Foundation, bringing access and education about the performing arts to the underserved in our community.

Midori Salto (Art + Copy Nominee)

Midori Saito has been a volunteer of Art+Copy Club for less than a year. She is currently serving as a volunteer graphic designer for the club. This year, Midori has designed the creative — from email header and social media images to event signage — for Kansas City’s 2019 American Advertising Awards.

Midori is currently a production artist at GlynnDevins.

Nolan Donovan (Ad 2 KC Nominee)

Nolan has been a member of Ad 2 Kansas City for two years. Though a regular at Ad Hops, this is Nolan’s first year serving on the Virtual Agency committee as the digital marketing lead.

Nolan takes pride in working at a start-up company that you’ve never heard of, Big 6 Media, as the director of search engine marketing. If you’re looking for someone to talk to about digital marketing, Nolan is your go-to guy, from the strategic to the geeky. If that’s not your speed, ask Nolan about his goal of trying a new restaurant every week — he’s six months in and needs new recommendations.
