Many have already delcared the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts to be a crown jewel in a town known for its fondness for monarchial monikers and royal descriptors. By all accounts of this past weekend's grand opening galas, concerts, and open house, the $413 million dollar facility more than deserves the praise.
To have the Kauffman Center so close to the creative heart of Kansas City's Crossroads Art District provides for the unique melding of old and new, the traditional with the modern, the classic guardians with the avant gard. It's also worth noting that those behind a significant amount of the art and action in the area are members of our own advertising community.
This past weekend, one of the most stunning examples of this exciting sort of cross-pollination came in the form of an amazingly designed, composed and executed multimedia experience from fellow Crossroads residents Quixotic Fusion. The visual and aural performance used the exterior shell of the Kauffman Center itself as a canvas.
It's moments like these, where Kansas City's fine artists, performers and creative minds come together, that underscore the remarkable talent and vision that exists in this fair community of ours.
