AAF-KC Sports Network Update

June 27, 2012

The 2012 AAF-KC is off to a sizzling start. Many thanks to Los Hierros (Meers) for serving as the first week's officiating crew. Here's the grand recap of this week's action.

VML vs. Fowl Balls
VML's team showed its experience (and the Fowl Balls showed their inexperience) early in yesterday's matchup, with VML jumping out to a quick 6-0 lead. Once the Fowl Balls figured out complexities of the game like "catch the big red ball" and "throw it to 1st base," the teams battled close for the remaining five innings, ending in a 6-1 victory for VML. With some wild base running, ball-to-face action and big kicks, the action was exciting and bodes well for the rest of the season!

Rockets are Red vs. Slayers
It was a neck-and-neck, back-and-forth, give-and-take, Kid 'n Play type of game for the Slayers (SHS) and Rockets are Red (Barkley). Case in point — Barkley tied the game in the top of the 6th and SHS rallied with a two-out smash into center field to take home the victory 7-6. After the game, Barkley's captain Chelsea Fitch said, "congratulations, you won the kickball game against us." SHS' captain Seth Gunderson responded with, "thanks, this winning a kickball game is a weird feeling -- our whole team feels awkward."

VML vs. Goodwill Bunting
After a solid victory in their first game, VML fell victim to Bernstein-Rein in the first double-header of the season.  Bernstein-Rein's young Goodwill Bunting squad lived up to their name and appeared to master the art of good bunting. VML made several adjustments in the field, but it was too little too late and Goodwill Bunting soared ahead with an 8-0 victory.

I've Got 99 Problems But My Kick Ain't One vs. Pitches B' Crazy
It seemed like a walk in the park (no pun intended) in the beginning. DEG thought they had a solid “W” under their belt. But T2 wasn’t about to wave their white flag …they rallied back to make it an exciting 18-8 game in the 4th. However, in the end, Pitches B’ Crazy walked away with a 20-11 win. T2, well, they had 99 problems… and catching was one. All kidding aside, it was an awesome time. Both teams were great sports, laughed a lot, and probably walked away with some lessons learned.

Be sure to check out some great pics of the week 1 action on Bernstein-Rein's Facebook page.
